The Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold is a living parable of the Savior’s power to heal and redeem.

Kintsugi

When a cherished bowl breaks, the Japanese do not discard it. They repair it with gold lacquer, celebrating the cracks as part of its story. The vessel becomes more valuable, more beautiful, and stronger than before.

This is exactly what the Atonement of Jesus Christ does for us.

BOOK OF MORMON • ALMA 7:11-12

“And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.”

— The Savior willingly experienced every pain, every fracture, every sorrow so He could heal us perfectly.

He does not merely cover our brokenness — He fills it with His golden grace, making us whole in ways we could never achieve alone.

CHAPTER I • PERSONAL TESTIMONY

From the flames to faith.

Eight years ago in a Houston burn center, I lay covered in second and third degree burns across my hands and arms. I had been on fire — literally.

Before that moment I had no faith. None. I was lost, broken, and facing a future that could have easily ended in trauma, PTSD, chaos, and ruin.

Instead, I chose Jesus Christ.

In the Refiner’s Fire, I came to know Heavenly Father and His Son in a way I never could have imagined. They became real to me. Present. Aware. Healing me from the inside out.

That fire did not destroy me — it refined me. And I have spent every day since being rebuilt by His love and power.

Rebuilt in the fire. Restored in the mountains.

Today my life is centered on what truly matters: God, my wife, my sons, and our family.

My wife is from Japan. Our children are beautifully blended Japanese and American. I am an American and the only member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in my family — a convert baptized in 2021.

I divide my time between Houston, Texas and the sacred mountains of Northern Japan in Niigata — where paradise really does meet the earth.

The warrior’s heart was fierce yet protective. Jesus showed us the ultimate strength: laying down His life so that we might live whole and free.

Endurance & Eternal Perspective

Samurai trained for a lifetime. Discipleship is the same — daily choosing to let the Savior repair us until we are perfected in Him.
